Ebenezer is reported as a dark, gothic retelling of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, directed by Ti West, with Johnny Depp as Scrooge and Ian McKellen, Daisy Ridley, Rupert Grint and Sam Claflin in the cast. Expect a heavier tone than the holiday versions many of us grew up with. It suits adults and older teens who like a ghost story with its shadows left in; its rating is not yet verified, so check it before bringing younger children. It is a good fit for a group that likes to argue about what a familiar story can bear.
